I am nieve to the term Desi.. does it mean Indian women from the south? ...it is where the skin tends to be lighter? Sorry for being so uneducated regarding this. I seek to learn.
Peace.
Also if anyone would be interested in teaching me a bit of Hindi that would really be appreciated. All I really know for now is "namaste" For- how are you? and "alvida" For- goodbye.
: )

Re: The meaning of Desi
Sat, July 10, 2004 - 6:04 PMHey Sean,
Here is Desi 101 for ya.
Word Desi is derived from "Des" which means "country" or "mother land" or "home land" Desi is usually used by fellow countrymen who are abroad.
Now a days (specially in the United States) Desi has really become a kewl slang to refer to anyone who is either Indian or Pakistani. Example "He/She is a Desi"
Cheers!
